So was John saying that the key in the bathtub was also unnecessary?

Really good points were made here, quite an interesting read.
To be honest I've never even thought about the thread subject at all, dumb me :wall:
But now, when I started thinking, I've came to a possible conclusion that "not killing Adam" was a part of Gordon's test too. He doesn't know the guy, he for sure cannot know whether Adam is a good guy or bad. So maybe John wanted Gordon to understand that Adam deserves to live? But then why did John let Adam die? Maybe because Adam didn't show much of a will to live?
Although my theory doesn't make a lot of sense since Amanda was in practically the same position with her game. She chose to kill that unknown guy and won anyway.
Well, I'm even more confused now.
There's a lot to think about.

Thanks for reading.

Gordon technically failed his test but he definitely showed the will to live and also to save his family. I go with the theory that this is what John wanted for the whole time and that this was the reason he gave Gordon a second chance. And regarding Adam, he tried to shoot John. He should've learned to cherish life just like Gordon was supposed to but instead he attempted to kill the guy who tried to teach him this lesson when he got the first opportunity to do so. So Adam basically survived and therefore passed the game but this attempt to kill John showed that while having survived he still didn't understand the whole purpose of the game which ultimately caused John to leave him for dead.

The thing with the Amanda thing is that she did know that guy. They were cell mates, they could've very easily become friends or something within that range; or maybe even enemies.
Adam did get fucked, to be honest; but, as has been said, he showed no real will to live, and seemed to not get the overall purpose of him being there. As with Gordon, he definitely did try to leave and survive.
This whole conversation has me really confused, but it's so good.
